Programs & Events

Below is a general overview of the key events planned and hosted by different leads/groups at the school.

Adelante Event Description (All events school wide not just PTA)

August	New Family Orientation	Directora	An evening meeting to give new families details on what it will be like to be a part of the Adelante Community
August	Bienvenida	Parent Coordinators	This is an afternoon welcome back event where the students come to find out who their teacher will be and for Community building after summer break
August	Expectations Assembly	Principals	This is an assembly for the students to explain the expectations of them and the important rules to follow
Starting September and every first Friday of the month after	Fun Fridays TK-5th	Teachers/Parent Volunteers	Parents and teachers put together fun activities for the students to have some fun time once a month for about 45minutes
August	Chuck e Cheese Family Night	PTA	This event helps raise funds for Science Camp. This event helps new parents and children connect.
September	Cafecito with PTA	PTA	Event held on first Friday right after drop off. Parents are informed about various opportunities to volunteer and help at Adelante
September	Back to school night	Teachers	This is an evening event for teachers to explain to the parents classroom happenings and expectations.
September	Cafe con la Directora	Directora	This is a meeting where the Directora will update parents on important information about the school and also answer questions from parents
Once a month every second Friday	Spirit Days	Student Council	Student Council will pick themes and ask the students to show schools spirit by wearing clothes in that theme
Every other month	PTA Association meetings	PTA	Member meeting to discuss fundraisers, budget, events and school parent/teacher issues
Every third Friday of the Month	Safety Committee	Principal/Parent	This is a meeting where any safety issues are discussed and problem solved
October	Book Fair	PTA	5 days of book sales in P1 to promote reading and earn books for the teachers
October	Leyendo Bajo las Estrellas/Reading under the stars (On Hold)	Teacher lead/Parent Coordinator	This is an evening event to promote reading. Volunteers set-up tents and readers read to students for about 40 minutes, then everyone enjoys pan dulce and chocolate
October	High School Night (5-8)	Counselor and Community Liaison	Resource night with table set up with a variety of different high schools from the public, charter and private
Monthly	Student of the month	Principal	Each teacher chooses 2 students who have modeled the monthly characteristic
Every other month	Middle School Dances (On Hold)	Student Council	Dances for 6-8th graders to build community for 2 hours
End of October	Fall Festival	5th Grade	Family fun event with a Halloween theme food, games , dancing and etc.

November	Tradición Y Vida	Parent with teacher guidance	Projects displayed around the school.

December	Celebraciones/ Holiday Performance (On Hold)	Teachers and Community Liaison	Each Grade level is assigned a different culture to share how they celebrate the holiday and share that in a song/presentation to the Adelante Community. Evening event before break.
January	STEAM Project Packets go home and preparation begins (TBD)	Teacher	STEAM project preparations begin. Teachers decide if they will be done in class or at home. Each grade level will get a science theme depending on the grade level curriculum. Top three are chosen by teacher and there will be a STEAM fair in March
February	Honor Assemblies	All Teachers and Directoras	Semester Assembly for those students who have met the honor requirements .
February	Maraton de Lectura/ Reading Marathon	PTA	PTA plans a reading marathon as a fundraiser and to promote reading. Each student will receive a reading log, sponsor sheet and rules packet. This will take place over a span of 3-4 weeks.
March	Career Day	Community Liaison and Assigned Teacher	Invite Career Professionals to present to our students. The event is from 9:00-11:00am with three different rounds of speakers allowing each class to hear from at least 3 different speakers

March	Cesar Chavez March	Assigned Teacher	Students choose to write a speech or draw a picture in honor of Cesar Chavez. Principal chooses the best ones to submit to the District to enter into a contest. Grade levels have the opportunity to participate in the District Wide March to honor the day
March	Parent Pachanga	PTA	PTA plans a dinner/dance to promote community building amongst our parents and teachers.

April	Dia del Nino-Make and Take night	Teacher and Parent Coordinator	This is an evening for parents especially new parents to come and get ideas on creating poems or their students for Dia del Nino
April	Dia del Nino	Parents, Teachers and Community Liaison	Teachers open their classrooms to allow parents to come in and read the poems they created to their child. Then the whole school meets on the black top to blow bubbles make a wish and enjoy ice cream all to celebrate Dia del Nino
April	Spanish Spelling Bee	Teacher/ Parent	Students will compete to travel to the National Spanish Spelling bee to compete there. Depending on this year’s organizers this will be voluntary or teachers will hold elimination rounds in their classrooms.
April/May	SBAC Rally	ASB/Teacher	A rally is planned to motivate the students to be energized for SBAC testing
May	Open House	Teachers	Teachers open classrooms to share the students work to their families
May	Spring Carnival	PTA	PTA organizes a food festival with carnival games. Normally held on a Friday afternoon. The event helps building community and raise funds for our school.
